Case Files : The Exoneration of Obie Anthony

Description

In a case representing a record third exoneration in one year, NCIP lawyers assist in getting a Los Angeles man’s murder and attempted robbery convictions set aside by uncovering new evidence of innocence.

Obie Anthony spent 17 years in prison for a murder he had nothing to do with. No physical evidence connected him to the crime, and he was convicted primarily based on the testimony from one witness: a pimp and career criminal who is probably the actual killer. That witness, John Jones, has admitted that he never he really saw anything, and made his identification of Mr. Anthony based on suggestions from police. On September 30, 2011, Judge Kelvin Filer found that false testimony, prosecutorial misconduct and ineffective assistance of counsel had rendered Mr. Anthony's trial unfair, and that had the jury heard all of the truth, it likely would have acquitted Mr. Anthony.
